I am quite impressed with Micron. They've been around a long time in the
background (making RAM chips). They started selling their own machines
in part because after the Sumimoto plant blew up outside Tokyo, the price of
RAM has gone up drastically. Micron can keep their prices low because they
make their own RAM. And so naturally, their machines tend to come standard
with more memory than other company's, which is perfect for AutoCAD and 3D
Studio users. They're not necessarily doing things any different than a lot
of other companies. They're just being very responsive to our market.
As for what I think about their computer, I'm very pleased with it. They
have assembled a very good selection of high quality parts in the one I've
got: Micronics motherboard, Maxtor hard disk, Diamond graphics board, Teac
floppies, Techram HD controller, Mitsumi double-speed CD-ROM, and so on.
Since the components are good, it appears to be built well, they respond
quickly to orders, and their prices are very good, I'd say it was a good
choice. As far as performance goes, the machine on my desk right now is the
fastest thing I have ever run AutoCAD or 3D Studio on. Does that say enough?
