I've read that the Earth is constantly accumulating dust from space. This has been shown in the layers for the ice cores drilled at Antarctica. One of the authors of the report I read says that over the course of a few billion years the total dust could be in the hundred mile range, assuming the rate of accumulation has been consistent. Dean
