Ok…
Both SAY, and SPEAK were parts of the speech software that shipped with
earlier versions of the AmigaOS (versions 1.3 & 2.04). It could read
*text*, and convert the text into speech using the Amiga's built-in sound
system.
Commodore leased this speech software from a 3rd party, and when the lease
ran out, Commodore decided not to renew the lease. The software was
rarely used by commercial software, and worked for only english text.
If you can find a 1.3 or 2.04 system, the files needed are:
– DEVS:narrator.device
– L:speak-handler
– LIBS:translator.library
– :SAY
– DEVS:mountlist (but you only need the SPEAK: entry in the
list)
The SAY program, isn't needed. It is just a program for playing with the
speech. Say, opens a window, inwhich you can type yext, and hear the text
spoken back.
The listing for 'Speak:' in the mountlist file, can be edited into a
DOSDriver file, and placed in DEVS:DOSDrivers for auto-mounting.
