My favorite piracy story involves a venture capitalist who'd taken over a
company I'd worked for… we spent an entire morning discussing copy
protection, and how we might implement it in a software package, and all the
pros and cons. At the end of the meeting, we needed to approve a few minor
office expenditures, including a new text editor for two programmers. Venture
Capital Bozo says "Why don't we just buy one and make a copy of it?" Just
another wasted morning. His argument was, If I buy one copy, it's mine and I
can do with it as a please. He couldn't make the connection to the morning's
discussions.
Keep meeting strangers! You never know where it will lead. Benevolence goes a
long way.
