I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.
If there is no timecode present wherever you choose to start will become point
00:00:00:00.
A blank tape will have no means of telling where you are. I usually
stripe a tape from beginning to end prior to a shoot. Then I usually
start videotaping around 90 seconds into the tape. So , I believe
what you're saying is that if I also take a pre-striped dub candidate
and move to the frame where video begins on the master and begin the
dub process there then the video and TCode would match on both.
If that is what you are say it would be true if everything was frame
accurate but you could still easily be off by one or two frames . It
is an interesting point though I might begin experimenting with this.
At any rate it seems if you knew the frame difference at the starting
point between the 2 then you could develop some utility to go through
your edit list at the end and apply the difference to your edit point
numbers and come up with a corrected edl for your master.
In response to the question about what Visca command I was trying to
apply to the ME program. It seems that they have a bug in the way
they apply the audo insert function.
If I send the command ex: recorder:cmd(inserta)
it does indeed put the deck into audiodub on screen but immediately goes into
audiodubbing. Even if I do a pause first and then issue the command. It's
strange. The deck goes into audio dub and pause mode as you would expect but
then after about a second it releases pause and just starts dubbing. At this
point you have to issue another pause command. Now get this. If I do the
inserta command and as soon as the data onscreen shows audio dub paused mode, I
then issue another pause command trying to catch it prior to pause releasing.
This has no effect. It releases from pause anyway but now the pause button
won't work. I have to issue stop. It's very frustrating. I would like it to
either just go into audio dub without pausing, so I could sequentially issue
the pause command; or I would like it to just go into audiodub and stay paused
until I told it to record..
As It is now I have to do the inserta function at a point where I don't care
about it releasing. Then I stop it go to where I want to dub and just issue the
normal record command. Once you have issued "inserta" the record command only
inserts audio. You have to do a resest to get video to record again.
Also, why is there no way to insert video on this vdeck. I mean all you should
have to do is isolate the pcm audio tracks. I know there is no control track I
just think it would be good to record video without affecting the pcm audio. It
is an option on their industrial decks but even there is limited by time. I
don't see the big deal about video insert. It's not a video insert like VHS
where the control track is unaffected this is jus something to leave the
section of the helix where the pcm is out of the loop. It obviously can be done
the reverse way with inserting the audio section of the helix but not the
video. Supposedly the record head switches from record to play as it passes
over the section of the track where the audio/video section is. If it can
swtich on and off to re-record audio why not the other way with video.
