I went to a video exhibit this weekend and saw the flyer. It did have pretty good picture quality, but the software was lame. Here are a couple of tidbits I picked up that I haven't seen posted. The sound interface is really screwey for say, background music. If you had music that you wanted to run under the first minute of video, you have to place the sound icon somewhere before the video it begins under, set a delay value to start at the appropriate place, and a duration. If you change your video, you must recalculate the delay/duration. Could get tricky. A typical configuration would be 2 drives, say a 9GB and a 2GB. The Newtek guy said that the software will be smart enough to only copy the "parts" of the clips necessary for A/B toaster stuff to the second drive, so it can be pretty small. The software interface will be the storyboard only from Newtek. He said that they are "trying to get" sunrize to modify Studio 16 to work with the flyer's audio. He also hinted that any other overall interface other than the storyboard (such as timeline) will probably have to come from 3rd party developers. He said that their will be a lot of low level interface provisions as well as AREXX control. There are two serial ports on the flyer that will be inactive in the first release but "could be used for things like machine control" in future software upgrades. Any finally, upon questioning, it was admitted that the flyer itself is "just a couple of digital tape decks that don't rely on the toaster or the Amiga" even though it is a Zorro card. The basic design can easily be made into another bus configuration (PCs etc…) as long as the support software is written to go along (no dependence on Amiga chipset).
