Anyway, it wasn't my intent to get into a debate about it. My main concern was that the RGB to YUV calculations were as faithful as possible in conformance with CCIR 601. The 16 bit analogy, as we conventionally think of 16 bit RLE is not a relevant comparison as a YUV file is a matrix scheme with filter characteristics, which purports to achieve the same result as what we conventionally think of as a 24 bit image; one with a potential for 16 millions colors.
