MO Drives
Easy ones first:
I got the Fujitsu from Insight – big adds in Byte and PC. Nice 24 hour
tech support line.
I originally was quite interested in Pinnacle , but someone on here had
said that they were unsuccesfull getting it running with an Amiga.
All I did with the Fuji was intsall it, power-up, run FaaastPrep on the
disks, reboot and that was that. There is nothing special to do to make
it writable as it appears to the gvpscsi.device as a removable media
read/writable device.
One thing that comes to mind: some people have noted that on the A4000 the
CBM scsi.device is actually an IDE device and that you have to use
scsi_2.device (or some such) as the SCSI driver. That would be for a 4091
card. For the GVP, use the FaaastPrep utility, best from a copy of the
original disk, and just search through board and SCSI ID numbers until you
see the drive listed. Then prep one of the media. Depending on the age
of your GVP card, you may want to insure you have a ROM revision that can
be used with removabeles (after about version 4.3, I think – current is
4.13 last I knew…). No low level format is required. Just set up the
partions, write an RDB and AmigaDOS format.
One other thing – I believe it is true that you CANNOT use MO drives that
use 1024 byte sectors – they must use the 512 byte sectors to be useable
on the Amiga.
