I realize this thread has long since died (hey, it's the summer! I've been
doing other things than play with computers) but I would like to add my own two
cents.
AAS is a big disappointment to me not because I can't get it to run — I can
get far more demanding programs than AAS running under Windows — but because
of the basic concepts. Until I played with Premier, I thought what I wanted
was impossible, but now that I bought that program, I realize how disappointing
AAS is. The combination of PhotoShop 3 and Premier beat AAS all to hell, and I
would suggest that to anyone looking to do the kinds of things AAS was supposed
to do.
Because AAS loads everything into memory, you can't work on more than around
90 TGAs at a time (even with 32 megs), which isn't enough to do any serious
full screen animation work. I've worked successfully with 300+ TGA sequences
in Premier. AAS might be a halfway decent product for AVI work, but for a
product to be a "companion" to 3DS, it has to work in full screen 30fps mode,
which means TGAs.
Just IMHO.
