Dan: I don't know the technicalities but the documentation certainly claims that the Epson can print at 720×720 dpi resolution as long as you use the special coated paper. Your 8.5 x 11 sheet minus the .5 border = 7.5 x 10 image area. To max out the 720 dpi you would need to render your images to a whopping 7200×5400 (720×10 by 720×7.5). You can get decent results at a much lower resolution say 2000 x 1500 which would be 200 dpi. Much above this level you start getting diminishing returns with the Stylus. On a dye-sub printer you might want to max out the resolution but not necessarily on an inkjet IMHO. The Stylus is a terrific printer and you can't beat the price. There are more photographic printers out there but not in the same price range. To get the best out of the Stylus you definitely want the Special paper. – Bob Ritger
