Ben, Well, I checked my old speedometer ratings for the Emplant and compared them with the Amax IV for the whole set and found that both boards are pretty much the same. I was wrong about the video. The Emplant rating was somewhat less than Amax IV's, but otherwise the benchmarks were pretty similar. Amax IV was a tad better on a few and a tad worse on a few others and virtually the same on the majority of them. Nevertheless, Amax IV's video performance seems very sluggish despite the benchmarks compared to black/white. Performance overall slows down quite a bit, particularly opening and closing windows, waiting for programs to load, even button complementation when clicking the mouse on a gadget seemed to be in slow motion. I don't recall that Emplant was like that, but it's been a while since I used one. I've also found that Amax IV has a problem with my tape drive. If I don't set the drive as a scsi manager device in the preferences, then the Mac doesn't recognize the drive at all. If I select it as a scsi manager device, the Mac recognizes it, but Retrospect won't read or write to the drive. It will control it to the extent of retensioning, but that's it. Readysoft indicated that is a problem. Amax II has no problem using the tape drive. I never used tapes on Emplant, so I don't have any way to compare this particular irregularity.
