I was doing this on a Sun Workstation, and the low level format command kept timing out before the disk was finished many hours later! I ended up having to find the place in the source code in the SunOS UNIX kernel, lengthening the default time, and then recompiling and praying! And all this without Gus to hold my hand and tell me it would be all right! (Because he was laughing too hard to stand still, as I recall!) Greg Pyros
