I usually work on the idea that the simpler the solution, the better – and letting the disk go until it has time to validate is certainly the least likely method if you want to save the data. If it simply will not work, even after a few hours of effort, then more stringent methods may be required, but it works so often that it is certainly the best to try first. —Betty
