Tony, The only language other than English that I know is Latin. So the first time I realized that English must be fairly strange was in college when I observed some students trying to teach the "finer" points of English to an Iranian student. He had an extremely hard time understanding the various uses of the word "smoke". Like, "where there's smoke there's fire", and "do you smoke", and "no smoking". Of all the subtleties of the language they presented to him, the only one he understood was "let's party", where he immediately said "Oh yes! That's where everybody gets drunk!".
