James, ARC.EXE is executable just as downloaded. Just change the name to ARC when you copy it to your c: directory, and use it with the command ARC x filename I cannot recall for sure, but I think ARC023.ARC is the same program as ARC.EXE, but needs to be unpacked. ARCHLP.EXE can be run without unpacking. Just type its name. It is a help file that helps you understand and use the older archiving programs. ACC142.ARC is a communications program that was once the most popular of all that I know about. It is especially suited for use on CompuServe, but I've used it as a general purpose term. Try this: Open a shell, and cd to the place where you have these programs and then type: COPY ARC.EXE C:ARC COPY ACC142.ARC RAM: CD RAM: ARC X ACC142.ARC After the unpacking is done, type DIR to see a list of the files that came out of ACC142.ARC. Then, copy all of the files (except ACC142.ARC) to the directory or floppy from which you want to use them. Then, read the instructions for setting it up. I don't remember it very well, but we'll all be glad to help. —Betty
