"It IS dead, i've unscrewed to four screws holding the lid down. powered up the machine and watched the head reach half way to first cyclinder to read the boot block, stop, shudder and power down, the head then returned to the park position under magnetic force." Micheal, thanks for info on "DIRT CHEAP DRIVES" but shipping to the UK would put the price far to high, luckily i can get a 730mb Scsi-Pro for #145 uk pounds (about US$220) and a 1gb scsi-2 for uk#275 (about US$420) I asked about the drive in the hope that it was I who was doing something wrong and not that the drive was dead, it seems a waste throwing a 127 meg drive into the bin when scsi has 6 positions open for use. Thanks to everyone who helped with their input, but it seems that the drive didn't want to give output. Anthony (AutoPilot Novice from Manchester, UK)
