Uwe,
<<Scsi-hd in A590 box..>>
The scsi drive can not be anything larger then a 3.5" HH (half height) drive,
and you'll need the correct cable (obviously). The Jumper at the front of the
A590 controller PCB marked "XT-SCSI" is actually only used for the LED, which
tells you when the drive is being written to or read from.
At present i have the old 20meg XT drive in place, and a SCSI setup of a
conner 60meg, conner 40meg, and a Chinon Cd-rom all attached to the internal
Scsi connector of the A590 (but sat on the desk top), with a PC power unit
providing power for the Scsi drives.
If your concidering a straight replacement of the XT drive, all you'll need to
do is unfasten your XT drive, fasten in the SCSI, connect the SCSI cable, and
the power cable from your XT will do perfectly. Change the jumper to scsi, so
you know when the drive is being used and close the lid.
If you decide to use my method of using drives external to the A590, 1 extra
drive can be run from the a590 PSU, but i would suggest getting an external psu
for the drive(s), an remember to switch that PSU on 1st before powering up you
A500.
If you want anymore help, you know where to come….
