Alan,
<How do I load the various programs after I download them. Do I need to use
the shell? I am able to copy them from thr ram to a disk, but I can't seem to
access the files.>
Most files online are compressed with a program to make them smaller and
easier to up/down/load. The last three letters after the '.' tell us which
compressor was used. If it's .lha or lzh you can uncompress them with LHA,
which can be found in a self-extracting archive in the AmigaUsers
Archiver/Crunchers library as LHA138.run.
Copy it to ram: cd to ram: type:
lha138.run
and it will unpack itself. Copy the executabely (LHA) to your c: directory.
Any time you want to find out how to archive or unarchive a file you can type:
lha
on a cli/shell line and it will display all the commands and the templates
for using them.
To simply unpack an .lha file go to where the file is and type:
lha x filename
hit return and the file will unpack.
There are other extensions also like .txt, a text file, can be read as is,
.zoo Zoo, .zip, Zip, etc..
Hope this helps!
Asha
