Sam, The prices are at my office, but her goes from memory. This is for the AVID on the Power Mac AVID – MEDIA SUITE PRO Includes 4 boards and software. $7995.00 Power Mac approx price 4000.00 SCSI hard drives 9BB $3,000 each 9000.00 20" monitor 2000.00 14" monitor 800.00 Speakers 300.00 The person I talked to at AVID was not 100% sure about the Power Mac price. The model is the 8100/100. It might be slightly less than $4,000. We could only find the model below and the model above and did a guess at the price. The 14" monitor price seems a little high, but maybe monitors for the Mac are higher in price than for the PC. I have no idea if they are any different. The speakers also seemed a little high in price, but I think AVID is suggesting a pair of top of the line. The Media Suite Pro will also run on a Pentium 66 MHZ computer. I know you can buy those for under $2,000. But, the system for the PC is $10,000. So it is a trade off in price. The one thing that AVID told me that sound interesting is that you buy your SCSI drive directly from AVID. They write their own firmware so that the drives work with their system. They don't mark up the price of the drives. If anything, I was told that the drives might cost less, since AVID buy drives in very large quantities. NewTek should take a lesson on this item. Now let's see. I bought my Toster in July of 93 for $5200. The Flyer cost me $2900. The SCSI drives (2) 9GB were $4500 each (ouch) so thats $9000. The audio drive was $350 (I think) and the CD rom was around $250. The tower for the drives was another $350. Installation was around $100. I think I'm correct on the Flyer price. Wasn't it $3495 less the $500 rebate. Or was it $3995 less the rebate? It's been so long ago. So, the total I spent was $18,150 plus a lot of phone calls. For a little less than $7,000 more I could have had a V8, that is an AVID with 3 SCSI drives instead of two. And, now here is the best part, a system that actually works. But, like a lot of us, I somehow believed that I was saving money going the current route. Well, since I already had the Toaster I was $5,000 ahead. But, if I had to start from scratch…. What I really get upset with is all of these NLE companies who advertise that you can buy a NLE for $5,000 or $8,000. All they are giving you is the price of their software and whatever hardware boards they have. They never tell you up front that you need all the little extras that bring the price to somewhere over $20,000. Fred
