Ernie: Winzip has been one of my favorite programs for a couple of versions (my most recent is 5.6 is that current?), but it won't necessarily be the most practical answer in this case. I wasn't going to assume that Ken could be certain that the file he downloaded was indeed an archive let alone one made by PKZIP. If the file was an image – a .gif or a .jpg then Winzip would useless. For future use a file ending in .001, .002, etc. would sit there on your hard drive a mystery. Now was that an image file or a bunch of image files or maybe that was a .doc file? IMHO, renaming is a better approach but as you pointed out not absolutely necessary. – Bob Ritger
