PAR GAMMA?
Hi Guys
I'm dumping some single frames of an animation (752×576, 24 bit
uncompressed TGA's) to tape via a bureau service who is using PAR
(hence the PAR/PAL res).
My question is: I'm not sure how dark and how much the colors
will vary from the PC's monitor to the video back (a TV?)
At the moment I've got the PC hooked up to 3 output devivces. A
SVGA screen, a composite signal to a TV monitor (Panasonic) and
a Sony Trinitron (PVM1440Qm) monitor via a SVHS signal. I'm
using a PC2PAL decoder to accomplish this – works fine. But as
you would expect, tonal differences are quite noticeable – even
with color, contrast etc set to mid (default) settings.
My SVGA screen (a 17" Digital Corp) has a gamma of 1.24
but
My TV and Sony monitor both have a gamma of 1.00
Should I just turn off the SVGA screen and set the lights, colors
etc inside 3DS to suit the video output devices? This means I'll
have to pump heaps of light into the scene….or do I just let the
end user adjust for his/her TV settings?
Any advice would be a great help
ThanX GH
