Joe, Perhaps you can get an internship/apprenticeship at an organization that uses the tools you are interested in learning. This is a traditional method of people getting specialized training that is valuable to their career. Of course these kinds of situations pay little-to-nothing, but you can't expect anyone to pay you for the priviledge of using _their_ investment to advance _your_ career… Maybe if you approach an organization that's using a tool you want to learn and offer to clean the floors, or something, in exchange for off-hours time on their equipment… Maybe if you offer to work for free for a few months… _Maybe_ you'll just have to buy the hardware and software you are interested in learning – many other people in your situation have done just that in order to gain a competitive employment advantage. Think of it as an investment in yourself, just like any other higher education… I'm sure there's _some_ way you can figure out to get the knowledge and experience you need – it's really up to you.
