AMIGA 2000
On HBO about three nights ago, they were having technical difficulties,
so they displayed the typical "Please stand by" message. That message
screen was being generated by an Amiga.
The Amiga generates all of the graphics _and_ sounds for the game show
"Lingo", which was hosted by Mike Reagan (there'll be a new host this
September), and broadcast nationwide in Canada and selected cities in the
U.S.
ABC used the Amiga to generate quick graphics between winter Olympic
events. Maximum resolutions are 768×482 in 16 colors and 384×482 in 4096
(with some limitations) colors. The color range can be extended greatly
with add-on cards. To compare with characters generators, it corresponds
to a "rise time" of 82 nanoseconds. Many character generators have a
faster rise time, but they don't do 3-d, paintbox, animation, digitized
sound or read time code, let alone word processing, data base, etc.
