Multi-tasking ability – Given that if you try to load the system down too much
any music program will bog down, both KCS and Pro MIDI will work in conjunction
with other programs. KCS is touted for running in parallel with Dr. T's
librarians, Pro MIDI is designed to run right alongside other programs like
DMCS. Magnetic Music never sent me the promised review copy of Texture, so I
can't comment on that.
Numerical and graphing editing – Both programs support direct editing of the
MIDI event list. I'm not aware of any graphic editing support offhand.
Support of the Amiga's 4 sound registers – Pro MIDI offers complete and
built-in support, including the software for sample editing. The version of
KCS I have does not support the internal voices, but I understand that the new
release does/will.
Flexible quantization and filtering – Pro MIDI lets you quantize to any number
of clocks, but applies only one type of quantizing (I believe it's
nearest-click for both note on and off). Not terribly familiar with KCS's
quantizing features. Pro MIDI offers pretty good MIDI data filtering; again,
not terribly familiar with KCS in this area.
Sys Exc support – Don't know what you mean, exactly. If you're a programmer,
ProMIDI is the way to go; you can get a complete developer's kit that has all
the hooks you need for writing your own modules and interface routines. Plus
Todor has written several articles on Pro MIDI programming
