I would like to tell some of you Amiga software developers about the DEC VT340 color/graphics terminal. This terminal has a bit-mapped color display with a resolution of 640×480 pixels, and can display 16 colors at once out of a palette of 4096 colors. If these display specs do not sound familiar to you, you shouldn't be developing Amiga software! These specs a almost exactly the same as specs for the Amiga! Quite frankly, I do not understand why no Amiga software developers have yet developed an Amiga terminal program which can emulate the DEC VT340 color/graphics terminal. The Amiga (especially the Amiga 500) is perfect for it!! A 1-Meg Amiga 500 with color monitor and a terminal which can emulate the DEC VT340 would be a prefect replacement for the genuine article, and would actually cost a bit less. It wouldn't even need an extra drive, though it would be handy if the VT340 emulation was multi-tasked with other programs on a larger system. The Amiga's 640×400 standard resolution is not quite as good as the 640×480 resolution of the VT340, but this could be fixed very easily by using a 640×470 overscan display. I have not yet seen any Amiga terminal programs, from ANY developers, that are significantly better than what is readily available in public domain and shareware. Now is the chance for some of you developers to change this, by producing a terminal program that can emulate the DEC VT340 terminal. Get to work!!!
