If your drive can read disks that it writes itself without any problem, you may
simply need the heads re-aligned to specs. (I don't know who can do this for
you – I assume any dealer – but I know this is a standard
preventive-maintenance procedure for mainframe disk drives.) It shouldn't be
expensive.
