Corel Draw, through a program called WFNBOSS supplied with the program,
converts printer fonts (from Adobe, Bitstream, URW, Monotype, et al.) to
Corel Draw's own format. Once in Corel Draw, the fonts appear clear and
accurate to their original form. Individual characters can then be
converted to curves (almost instantly) so that their shapes can be altered
any which way. All curve portions of all objects in Corel are based on
bezier curves (the new buzzword it seems) and retain sharp detail at
practically any rendered resolution.
We are experimenting now with MAC Adobe fonts trying to get back EPS that
we can then send back to MAC Illustrator 88. As for PC Adobe Type I —
they convert just fine using WFNBOSS.
P.S. Seybold was very interesting. There were many booths, many new
products shown and a few important announcements regarding PostScript.
