The intent was not to "blow by you," but to provide an example of an utterance which could never be appropriate (except in the degenerate case of within a discussion of eternal improprieties such as this one). I believe I may be holding a fairly "existential" position, that profane, obscene, abusive postings are to be discouraged _not_ because they are "offensive," which leads us into the cul-de-sac of "offense is in the soul which reads the posting," but simply because they are profane, obscene, or abusive. This allows me to take the urban position that profanity, obscenity, and so forth are not matters of morality, but of commerce. If someone enjoys profaning or violating nature, that's okay, and if it turns out such a passion is widespread, then sure, let that person prosper. There is nothing deceptive about explicit gynecological or urological material in a newspaper named Screw, but the same material in (say) Amiga Today is nothing but mischief. So sure, publish "Modern Profanity," and turn the air black with abuse. I can help you find a distributor. Just don't call it "The Simpsons: An Inside Look," because that is misrepresentation.
