When flying balloon busting missions, immediately change your heading. The game usually has you flying straight into "Archie". I spend a lot of time circling around. When I engage I try to stay with the German plane and fire whenever possible. Practice deflection shooting… leading the target so the German flies directly into your stream of bullets. As you get better, you'll have some missions where you kill three or four Fokkers by yourself. As you can see, your kill total will go up in a hurry at that rate.
