Nancy, I'm in a similar situation. I use a Zenith SuperSport 286 as
something of a peripheral to my Amiga 2000. I'm something of a DOS-2-DOS
fan myself, why bother with a seperate, always present file system just to
read disks? I haven't had too many problems with file format conversion as
the word processor I use on my Zenith uses normal ASCII files as it's "file
format." Personally, I think that if you want to use your system as an
adjunct to your Amiga you should avoid using WordPerfect on your laptop.
It's not like you're using the laptop to generate massive, pretty-printed,
reports. Look around on the IBM forums for one of the PC-Write programs –
it's th one I use on my Zenith. It touches all of the major bases for text
creation, and isn't too bad for printer support and such when you need to
print something "on the road."
Best of all, the dern thing fits easily on a 720k disk! In fact, my
PC-Write directory is about 516K. That includes the 120K spelling
dictionary, and the three printer definition files I need (Home printer,
work printer, ASCII file output – for pretty printed .doc files). Not bad
for a sub-$100 program.
combine PC-Write with a shareware comm program and DSZ (for Z-modem
support) on the PC side with VLT (or Pmdcom) and the z-modem XPR and you
have a great way to get ASCII files to the Amiga word processor of your
choice.
Hope I've been of some help.
