PMJI: As I understand it, you can run Windows in STANDARD mode inside of 3DS2, but it's not recommended to try to run it in 386 Enhanced mode. In other words, add "USER-PROG#=Std. Windows,C:\WINDOWS\WIN.EXE /S" in your 3DS.SET file. The reason 3DSr2 won't run under Windows 3.1 is that Windows doesn't provide nor support VCPI memory, and the old version of Phar Lap 386|DOS Extender (v2.6) that r2 is linked with can't use DPMI, which Windows 3.1 DOES provide to DOS apps. 3DS2r3 (like Animator Pro 1.3) is linked with a newer Phar Lap version which CAN use DPMI memory. Hypothetically, one could use a utility (NEWDX.EXE) to substitute the Phar Lap extender code in the 3DS.EXE file with a newer, DPMI-capable version, but I wouldn't try it (except on a backup).
