Pete, I haven't seen the new inks although I had heard they didn't smudge. The ones that came with my 500C and replacements do, however. When were they released? I was encouraged by the apparent support that Canon provides but I needed colour so I didn't go for their printer. I don't know what driver I'm using for my HP printer. I had d/led several to see if there were any differences and I chose the one that had the least problems. As I recall there was only minimal documentation with it so I don't know who did it.
