Bob: have you eliminated that hypercache software from the test? If not, do so.
Do you have an external floppy connected? Disconnect it (you might have a low
power situation unless you have a better power supply than the one that came
with the 1200) Eliminate all background software thingies and create as simple
an environment as possible to test in. –Redmond
