APV stands for The Association of Professional Videographers. I started getting
their newsletter a couple of years ago. Then they stopped coming because I
didn't join.
About a year ago, some friends who we had first met at Roy Chapman's conference
asked me if I was going to the APV conference. I asked for more information and
when they sent me the information, I realized that it was the same group that I
had received the newsletter from a year earlier.
The thing I had liked about the newsletter was that it covered more than just
wedding info.
Brent and Roseanne Conrad run the association. At last years meeting, they
started something called Special Interest Groups (SIG). They now have six such
groups. Start-Up Business, Wedding/Event Video, Forensic Video,
Industrial/Commercial, Special Interest Video and Multimedia/Interactive.
Where Roy has put a lot of emphasis in how to make more money doing weddings
and associated services, the Conrads are suggesting diversification.
They have managed to get a couple of heavy speakers. Last year they had Lowell
(I'm not sure about the spelling) the man who makes the Lowell Lighting system
to talk about lighting and Dick Reizner (he writes for AV Video Magazine) to
speak.
The membership which includes a newsletter is $100 per year. The conference
cost $200 and some dollars. The second person from the same company or spouse
gets a reduced price. I have the flyer at the office and can get the exact
information for you tomorrow.
I think that there were about 300 people attending last year. Maybe a little
less.
They have an exhibit hall with a good turn out of exhibitors.
