#Hidden cost
This message is for any one thinking of buying the Emplant.
On the outside it looks good. Four hundred dollars gets you a Mac II
right? Wrong .
400.00 emplant
200.00 mac roms(most mac dealers tell you to get lost)
150.00 mac 800k drive
100.00 7.1 system software and manuals
???.?? AMIA interface

850.00 total you could go buy a used mac for that !
I've had my board over a month now and still no mac ! I thought I
could go to the local Mac dealer and get the roms,they said no way
only upgrades available to Mac owners.So I found a used mac II main
board for 150.00. I took the roms out and put them in the emplant to
dump the rom image. No luck, they would not dump.So I sent them to
UU they did it for me(2 week wait).Great now I had everything right ?
Wrong system 7.1 needs a mac 800k drive to install the software ( I
found that out by calling the tech line they said I was one of three
people that got 7.1 on 800k the Mac dealer said 7.1 comes on 800k
only). I went to a mac shop and bought 6.0.7 software on 1.44k disk
no problem reading that great! Oh no now I need to boot in 24 bit not
32 !What happened to all my memory ? Ten megs not enough ?You
probably need close to 16 to get it to run mine keeps crashing.
Well I have 620.00 invested so far I guess I'll buy the AMIA interface
and Mac 800k drive so I can use this thing.It would have been nice to
know up front about the requirements and had a better manual that
spells things out without checking every page over and over and
calling the very very very busy tech line all the time.
This thing should be sold with everything you need so you don't have
to get let down when you find out you have to buy something else.
Like with AMIA, 800k disk drive and 7.1 software or 7.1 converted to
something besides 800k.
