In more CAD-like programs, you can load a 3D model, move to a perspective viewpoint, then "render" the drawing as a series of lines, removing any "hidden lines" that are obscured by other parts of the model, then send the visible lines to a old-style plotter for a real-world high-res drawing of the model.
