>>Is anybody out there using 3DS R3 for architectural visualization? Are there
any architects or architecture students out there?<<
You bet !!! Since I started at an architectural firm in Denver about a year
ago I have done about 30 different 3ds projects with about an hour of total
animation. We don't do alot of photo-realiziam type visualization, we do
mostly quick (max 20 hours including model and processing) single images and
flics. What we do is when we are designing a project we simulatinously create
fairly simple 3d models of the project that we then using in 3dstudio to create
walkthrus. As the project changes the models and walkthrus are changed and
every time we meet with the client (usally weekly) we walk in with a laptop
running the latest walkthru. Clients seem to have a better understanding of
their project when they see a 3d model, rather than just elevations and plans.
The newest tech. we are using, is 3d charetts. On small and tight budget
projects we propose doing design charetts with the client and all user groups
(these usally last 3 days from program to dd drawings). After the project is
basicly flushed out about day two I create a model of the project and some
short animations and images. At the final presentation (day three) i take a
computer and show them the building in complete 3d (from when i get in to the
project to presentation is about 24 hours). Now these are not award winning
animations, but the client does not realize this (we have been getting alot of
great feedback).
