When you use files that contain alpha, the file size is too big, so you have to adjust the buffer by loading pardrv like this: C:\DPS_PAR\PARDRV /B:1500 See page 109 in your manual for details. I don't think you can recover the alpha from these files once saved to the PAR since they are first converted to JPEG by the internal hardware. If you need the alpha, use Alpha Split in the Render/Options dialog. As for your 2217a, I think that all of them suffer from generating excessive heat. However, if your system is sufficiently ventilated, you may never experience a problem. My 2217a was tightly boxed in and no air could circulate around it. I received my replacement drive ($50 overnight option) which is now working fine. I removed my 5.25" floppy to give the 2217a some air, and it does not seem to get so hot now. I may yet get the external PAR case, though, just for the added security. — James — MAP —
