TARGA 2000
I've seen the targa 2000 and was very impressed with it as a NLE and output
device for video clips using Adobe Premier. I have not seen it used for the
uses most of us apply to the PAR and the MAX. I asked the people about this
and they (Truevision) said the 2000 is primarily being sold as a desktop NLE
system for computer video productions. While I thought it has excellent
quality I was told that it was only 640X480 square pixel output and the NTSC
only had a 640 horizontal resolution. The PAR and MAX are higher. 720 for the
MAX and 752 for the PAR. I use a FAST video machine that switches input
resolution but the DVE's are only 640 res and I can see the difference. When I
asked about using the Targa2000 for broadcast work as opposed to computer video
shows the rep said I can get an EDL and use it with my source tapes for an
online edit session for true broadcast quality.
I've been waiting to hear from someone using the targa2000 to see how they like
it for animation output. One thing is certain, it is very clean quality output
on computer NLE and played very smoothly.
