One-line-itis
Ed,
Sorry it took me so long to reply, but the semester has begun, and I don't get
much "lurking" time anymore. This has been an interesting thread – I wouild
like to heartily second someone's recommendation of CODE COMPLETE as an
EXCELLENT "how to do it right" programming book – my only problem with it is
that it has such an extensive and useful list of other books that it inevitably
leads to an intensive case of "Computer Book Lust".
I also have WRITING SOLID CODE, which is pretty good, but CODE COMPLETE is the
BIBLE (both published by MS Press). I am trying to get my company to issue a
copy of WRITING SOLID CODE to everyone who will be allowed to program (we are
an engineering company, and there is nothing quite as bad as a major piece of
software that has been written by an engineer who thinks he is a coder).
BTW, how is the particle system coming along – still optimizing the interface?
P.S. Okay, so I'm composing this online – the "issue a copy of WRITING SOLID
CODE" above should read "issue a copy of CODE COMPLETE"
WSC is a good philosophical treatment, but I want our coders to look at the
nuts-and-bolts details of CC.
Later, dude (possible, much later)
