Amazing how in the messages that followed your response this thread went from our ability to see or reproduce photos on a computer vs paper to eating in Wisconsin and watching movies. Hmm, just about like many of my conversations. Anyway, back to your comments–generally what you said is probably correct for most of what we see/do with computer screens vs the printed page. I notice that when I am proof reading what I've typed, I see a higher percentage of typos on a page from my laser printer than on the screen. But, for our uses these days–it will probably be a long time before we have computer screens with 300 or 1000 dpi–we will have to work with what we have. Considering the expense of making color separations for printing as compared to a scan with no hard copy output, and the cost of pressing a CD as compared to printing only a few thousand copies of a book, a color encyclopedia of minerals on a CD would take a lot less money to publish than doing it on paper. And, most people would probably find it is "adequate". I think. Lanny
