You can't imagine how much I am enjoying your comments, Gus. As for the Alphas, according to people over the DEC forum, Alpha cards for the XL will be launched in two weeks. And with a few surprises. The speed will be over the previously announced 150MHz. Seems like good rumors to believe 🙂 BTW, and talking about benchmarks <g>, I just have read a comparative of systems running Photoshop on MacUser. The version was 2.5 for Intel, Unix and Macintosh (with the PowerPC plug-in). All machines with same 1GB drives, 72MB RAM (Indy came with 128MB), and 24bit color (they also added a few supercharged Pmac 8100 and Quadras 950 for comparision purposes). I have read the article and it is pretty good, basing all testing in real world Photoshop work in three different sizes of files. Very informative, at least 🙂 The results, using ordinary stock machines were (I mean, as they come from the company): 1.PowerMac 8100 2.SGI Indy 3.DELL XPS 90 4.Quadra 950 I don't have the times here (there were a LOT of tests to calculate the overall index, and the XPS only wins in time to open the application). The supercharged 8100 have an huge advantage over all the others (with specialized DPS chips, Quickdraw accelerator, RAID array…). But the normal PowerMac gets over the Indy and the Pentium 90 by a good margin. As you said, I don't care about tomorrow's speed. I care about today. That's why we got the PowerMac. The same with 3DS. I will get the Alpha when I see a message posted here announcing 3DS for the Alpha. And if they post a message announcing it for PowerPC, I will get the fatest PowerPC by the time it gets released. Right now, the 8100 is useless for 3DS. But, oh boy, Photoshop, Painter, Pagemaker and Illustrator are a totally different experience compared to the Pentium <g> ana /krazy images
