Al,
<Do any of you Parnet users out there have any knowledge or experience
concerning the the use of switch boxes? Do you have to turn off the power in
order to use the printer.>
Switch boxes are interesting things. To be absolutelyy certain that you
don't blow anything, it is advised to turn off the system before switching. I
had an A/B switch box on my serial port for years and live switched it with no
problems, but it seems I was quite lucky. However, you can buy a switch box
that is "break before make". This means it insures that all current is off
before switching to the other setting. These are quite expensive but most
people think they're worth it. Another option is to get an A/B/C/D switchbox,
put one unit on A the other on D and you can be certain that the connection is
positively broken between the two. It's a less expensive option, but should
work.
