This is often a problem with himem.sys in your config.sys file. If you still
need this functionality for Windows, try using QEMM instead, which doesn't
exhibit this behavior. To see if this is the problem, temporarily REM out the
line that says device=himem.sys in your config.sys, reboot, and see if the
problem goes away.
