<<I've been told about several software codecs available in the software forums here, but being new to Compuserve, I haven't figured out where they are or how to download them>> If you find one, do, indeed, make a note to let me know where to find it. I'd like to play around with MPG videos a little. In any case, I would think they would be more effecient for playing videos than .MOV's and possibly .AVI's, even if you don't have a HW codec. I will take a quick look under the file finder using the keyword "codec". That's usually the best way to find files pertaining to specific things like that. thanx!
