VRML (Virtural Reality Modeling Language)
When you create a world for video, it is no longer "3D" it is 2D with great
perspective, lighting, shadows, etc. In other words there is true no sense of z
(as in x,y,z)
VRML lets you take the same models in Lightwave, translate them into a text
file, place them on a web page, someone with a VRML browser gets to your web
page can walk arround your object, inside your building, or fly arround your
world.
All the rendering is taking place on the person's machine in real time, so
he/she can see whatever he/she wants to see in your world.
In short its Virtual Reality on the Web. Right now VRML v1 only supports static
objects. The only animation taking place is the user flyinging arround and into
objects. VRML v2 will support animation, and interaction, but no specifics have
been announced yet.
The smart thing Newtek also did in VRML is work with Toni Parisi, one of 3
co-founders of VRML ( another co-founder works for SGI.)
This gives credability to Newtek outside of video and Amiga circles.
This is a hot area of groweth for the web, andI am glad to see Newtek being
apart of it.
