In addition to Ted's reply, check you shinny values in the material editor for the materials in question. Many of the material which are called "matte" have shinny values of 5 and 24. This can cause unanticipated hot spots as well. In many cases you may want to knock those values all the way down, or even push them both up. These low values can cause a very wide and broad "hot spot" Chris P.S. Avoid using all caps in your messages. All caps is called "computer screaming"!
