Scott,
Sounds good. I'm in the process of assembling all the MAX components I can find
like P6's, DEC Alphas, video boards, etc. to build high-end systems. I have the
Omnicomp literature and I'll look at it again tomorrow. I'm not sure it
supports the Hoops (HDI) interface which is the key for MAX. Also 8 megs of ram
might not cut (hard to believe isn't? egads!) The Accel card I'm looking at has
8 megs DRAM and 8 megs VRAM. Does 1600×1200@24 bit. Now that may be extreme for
Beta or SVHS (my format) and I would pick the same card with lower memory (for
1280×1024) but the card is going to be really fast (smokin'!) because of the
dual video pipelines it has, OpenGL chip set for 3D and a S3 968 accel chip for
2D. I'm crying over the price but it is still better than those Nazis at
Intergraph. I can get DEC Alpha motherboards with 8 chips on it for around
$20k. Thats resonable. No way at Intergraph.
There are some other cards out there, some not released yet, that are going to
be good. We'll see.
I have a question that can't seem to get answered. The Glint chip, is it a
wannabe OpenGL chip? The dedicated OpenGL cards I have specs on seem to be a
little better than the Glint stuff. Opinion?
Talk to you soon.
Mark
