Aha … one of the famous questions of relativity. The answer is that there
is no such thing as a perfectly rigid anything. (I don't want to hear any bad
puns!) In fact, energy is transmitted through a material in the form of a
sub-light speed wave. Otherwise, you could in fact jostle a 10-light second
long stick of your superalloy and get an "instant" response at the other end,
in violation of relativity.
