Iain, Well, it's certainly possible you have a marginal hard drive. It's just a lot easier to swap out a power supply for testing than a hard disk. If you've been running with this configuration for a while, I would tend to suspect the hard drive. It's failure to spin up from a cold start would also point to the drive. It's still worth trying another supply, or reducing the load. Power supplies have been known to fail also. Good Luck, Jim Autopilot & Amiga
